I picked up a couple of guitars travelling through Dorset – which a young couple found in the loft when renovating their home. One of them was this Squier Bass, which I’ve brought back to life.

On the downside, it was just an Indonesian-made Affinity model in black – as regular as they come. It was in a right state too. But I’ve spent hours refinishing her and bringing her back to good playing condition. Here’s the blurb …

NECK: Lovely feel to it. Oiled fretboard, polished frets, new strings.

TUNERS: Have some tarnishing and oxidation, showing age, etc.

PICKUPS: Just the factory ones, but I’ve swapped in cream covers for a vintage vibe.
BRIDGE: Brass-style saddles installed for a touch of class.

BODY: Stripped to the wood and I’ve finished her as a relic. Having primed her, I sprayed her, then some clear coats. The colour is the closest I can get to sea foam green.

She has lots of deliberate scuffs, nicks and scrapes to replicate real, natural wear over years of heavy action. The result is a old-looking, finish that’s comfortable to hold and looks great. Hard to capture in pics, but I’ve tried my best.
IMPORTANT: The clear finish to the body is thin and waterproof. Keep any corrosives like switch cleaner away from the paint (or cover the body before using anything like this).
